We sat down with Bird to see how he creates.

Life takes every creator on their own

unique journey that never really ends. From being a child who loves to draw and paint, to making beats, to now designing his own style of furniture, @amgbird is looking to leave his mark in the designer scene.

Bird is a designer for @espionage.global in Houston, having started at the beginning of the year. In what started out as just a clothing brand quickly became a larger creative outlet for all things design. For him, that meant making his own lamps.

He always had a love for art but knew the typical journey wasn’t for him. Bird never went to any kind of design school; he just knew what he wanted to do and knew how to do it.

Making beats is where he started, teaching himself how to do everything he needed when it came to design. This ranged from screen printing, graphic design and other key skills that would get him further into the creative path he desired.

“Society sometimes steers you in the opposite way… But overall, I know what I want to do, in terms of my purpose, I want to create. I want to outdo myself and, in the future, create something with more guidance for the youth who want to go the artistic route rather than the social norms."

This path has now led him to his most recent, and joyful, creative output; his lamps. Using items such as spray painted PVC pipes and poured concrete molds with @espionage.global’s logo, Bird is finally seeing his vision come to life. Through this process, he has continued to challenge himself because he knew he could achieve more and more.

But of course, with the creative process, mistakes will be made as that is just part of the journey. The first lamp he created blew out all the lights in his place (ironic right) but that didn’t deter him one bit.

“We make mistakes every day but that’s the point of life. Mistakes help. You learn something every day.”

At the end of the day, Bird knows what he wants: leaving his imprint all around the world, and bringing a light to those who need it. 

“If you and five other people are doing the same thing, ask yourself are you truly creating.”
