For those who create, it is

always about getting better. Your craft, whether it be cooking, art, tattooing, whatever it is, has no room for complacency. That’s certainly what @cozy.b_ believes.

The painter and tattoo artist was inspired at an early age by one of his older cousins to express creativity. He remembers the days after elementary school where he’d go home with his aunt who worked at his school and watch his older cousin draw a variety of art pieces. Cartoon characters were his forte, but he would happily oblige to any request Cozy gave his cousin.

In 2014, this enjoyment he shared with his cousin developed into a talent. One thing led to another, and he began illustrating which led him to painting. Then after thinking it was corny that people kept telling him he should start doing tattoos, he finally listened and dove right into that career.

“[My cousin] was the one to tell me to try it out. At first, I used to just do illustrations and then from illustrations it led to other mediums.”

He started his professional journey in a residency through Sanman in art. That part of his journey led him to finding an apprenticeship at It Always Hurts tattoo studio where he has been at for roughly three years now.

Throughout his creative career, Cozy has always enjoyed the foundation of each project. Whether that be a painting or a tattoo, he loves seeing what he is about to create be laid out and prepared before he takes that leap in.

“Everything has a foreplan. If I’m sketching for a mural or putting the stencil on, that gets me pretty hyped. Like damn, I’m about to do this.”

This love for crafting run deep within Cozy that no amount of money can bring. That joy comes from the positivity and love that is seen for each client’s face. Making sure each person is enjoying what he creates is the biggest payment he can receive.

“Not everyone can make a mean ass omelet like you can. It all comes from passion and from the heart.”

On top of this enjoyment, he also is very passionate about making sure minority voices and creations are seen and heard. Living in such a diverse place such as Houston, he wants to make sure that he makes his mark for others as well as spreading the word for other minorities in the creative field.

“It means having the privilege of knowing you having an outlet without letting someone take it away from you. You can take it as far as your imagination can reach.”

This mindset motivates Cozy each and every day to improve what he does so he can build on his skills and inspire others to find their true passions and creative outlets.

“For those that think they are going to be at in the future. There is so much space to grow every day. Some people find a cap to it and don’t want to grow. I don’t want to be comfortable where I am at. I love what I do but every day is a lesson.”
